DEFENCE BUDGET OF FY 21-22 FALLS SHORT OF FORCES EXPECTATION

With the unprecedented threat looming over India's Northern borders, there had been an overall strain on budgetary allocations of FY 20-21 seen in the Revised Estimates (RE) of 2020. Though the capital outlay in FY 21-22 has witnessed an increase. In the capital outlay of Budget Estimate (BE) of FY 20-21, (ξ)1,13,734 cr was allocated. This was revised to (ξ)1,34,510 cr in the Revised Estimate (RE) of 2020. And now, the Capital outlay has marginally increased to (ξ)1,35,060 cr in this BE of FY 21-22. Meaning, there is an increase of 18.75 percent against the initial allocations viz-a-viz BE of 20-21. At the same time when we calculate it with respect to RE 2020 the increase is a meager 0.4 percent.
