THE NEED FOR ENHANCING MARITIME DOMAIN AWARENESS

Looking ahead, in order to safeguard her maritime interests, India should endeavour to build a favourable maritime environment and enhance net maritime security in the Indo-Pdcific region in cooperation with maritime forces from friendly nations. Enhancing Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) across the region is an initiative that would provide timely inputs on the developing situation across the Oceans, to initiate actions as necessary, be it for humanitarian assistance or to counter developing threats. While the IFC - IOR has been a major initiative in collaborating with countries in the region and multi-national agencies to enhance MDA, the recently revived Quad could provide another opportunity on similar lines.
