Nonresponses to Surveys and the Resultant Research Biases

Recently the National Academy of Sciences published a report on nonresponse on social science surveys (Tourangeau & Plewes, 2013). This expert panel gathered the best evidence on response bias that occurs with nonresponses to surveys, and. made several recommendations about how to improve the response rate. As I read through the many recommendations it was evident that, as much of our research is based on surveys, we need to attend to key concerns to more clearly inform our understandings.
