On June 27, the Russian state oil producer and the UK supermajor signed another deal deepening their cooperation despite ongoing tensions between Russia and the West. Following an agreement in May to work together to extract oil from Russia's shale formations, the deal was the two companies' second since the US announced sanctions against Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin. Under the five-year deal, Rosneft will supply BP with up to 12MM mt of refined products, for which it will receive a pre-payment of $1.5B or more that is being arranged by a number of institutions including Deutsche Bank, Bank of China, Societe Generate, and others. Deliveries to BP could begin as early as July.
