Energy output wanes from US Gulf of Mexico.

According to a new report from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), offshore fossil fuel production in the US Gulf of Mexico came to 3.86 trillion Btu in 2013, making up no less than 23 of 16.85 trillion in fossil fuels produced from federal lands and waters that year (note that the report did not address energy produced on private lands, which accounts for a considerable proportion of onshore production). The report added, however, that the amount of energy produced from the Gulf has actually been in decline in recent years, having fallen 49 from 7.57 trillion Btu in 2003. Natural gas production in the Gulf has fallen by 74 from 2003 to 2013, while oil output has declined from 584MM bbl (1.6MM b/d) in 2010, to 447MM bbl (1.2MM b/d) in 2013.
