Maverick, Petrostar to invest in GTL methanol in Canada.

The two companies have reported that they have formed a joint venture, Maverick Northstar, to deploy and operate small-scale gas-to-liquids (GTL) plants to produce methanol in Western Canada. Maverick Synfuels (US) and Petrostar Petroleum (Canada) plan to locate the plants near remote sites where natural gas is produced-and often flared-and convert the material to more easily transported methanol. The methanol will then be shipped to a hub facility to be converted to higher-value products, possibly including diesel, jet fuel, or propylene. Houston-based Plant Process Equipment has been contracted by Maverick to build small 10K-gal/d (238-b/d) GTL plants which will be mounted on skids so as to be easily moved and installed adjacent to feedstock sources.
