Parent-based language intervention for 2-year old children with specific expressive language delay: a randomised controlled trial with erroneous confidence (intervals).

摘要

We congratulate the authors (Buschmann et al) of a randomised control trial 'Parent based language intervention for 2-year old children with specific expressive language delay' for challenging the common wisdom and expanding the window of intervention to the relatively overlooked toddler age group. We fully agree with the conclusions of their trial, yet we would like to highlight glaring errors in the calculation of 95% CIs for various language ability outcomes (ELFRA-2 and SETK 3-5) on follow-up (given in Table 3: Post-test and follow-up comparisons on language abilities).
