When primary teeth erupted in an ll-monlh-old male infant with congenital cytomcgalovirus infection they were green and had hypo-plastic enamel (fig 1). He had been icteric from birth, with a serum bilirubin concentration of 156 umol/I (72% conjugated) 1 h after delivery. At the age of 9 days, bilirubm concentrations peaked at 497 n.mol/1 (95% conjugated), remaining >100 muinol/l until he was 6 months old. Serum bilirubm normalised at 13 months of age. When permanent teeth, erupted at the age of 6 years, some molars had green pigmentation.
