Opacities of the peripheral cornea are a relatively common clinical finding and can be due to a number of different causes, ranging from benign to more serious sight and even life-threatening conditions. Potential causes include inflammatory reactions in the peripheral cornea (for example, marginal keratitis), autoimmune conditions (for example, peripheral ulcerative keratitis), peripheral corneal degenerations (for example, Ter-rien's marginal degeneration), or deposit of substances in the peripheral cornea such as lipid (for example, corneal arcus) or copper (for example, Kaiser Fleischer ring observed in Wilson's disease).
