Ataxic sensory neuronopathy with Sjogren's syndrome is a devastating neurologic complication for which there is no established treatment. IV immunoglobulin (IVIG) was given to five patients with severe disabilities for an average of 12 years. Four patients showed remarkable improvement, two of whom responded after the first course. The authors conclude that IVIG is safe and effective to treat even chronically debilitated patients who have the disease, presumably because it ameliorates smoldering inflammation.
