Japan’s Ethylene Production Falls Below 6M Tons, Marking 27-Year Low

Japan’s domestic ethylene production came to just 5.92 million tons for 2020, falling 7.7 percent year-on-year to mark the first time since 1993 that production here has ended below 6 million tons. Petrochemical demand suffered from a number of factors throughout the year, including industrial production stoppages due to the pandemic as well as a consumer spending slump amid Japan’s state of emergency.
