Led by China, Asian countries are quickly catching up to Japan in advanced materials for semiconductors, batteries, displays and more – each country here working fiercely to develop industries in aim of becoming material powerhouses. And with it already apparent that the market shares and business profits of Japanese companies are floundering in this space, these companies too are expressing a real sense of urgency.
