Import options limited as US steel prices approach the peak

US steel rose 12 m/m with seemingly little resistance, as market sources reported mills still controlling order entry and still running behind schedule. Steel Market Update, which is part of CRU, recorded HR coil lead times out to 10.8 weeks in its latest survey, which is up one full week from two weeks before. This coincided with service centre flat rolled inventory hovering at 41.8 weeks of supply in April – a small increase from the low point of 40 days of supply seen in November 2020.
