Supply shortage pushes European sheet prices into orbit

European HR coil prices have increased every week over the past month. Weekly increases have ranged from $20–55 /t. By the third week in April German domestic HR coil prices stood at $1,100 /t ex-parity point and Turkish export prices at $1,045 /t. Prices are increasing on the back of strong demand across Europe and limited supply. CR coil and HDG coil have been in even shorter supply in recent weeks. This can be seen in the differential between these two products and HR coil, with CR coil €111 /t higher than HR coil in Italy and €162 /thigher in Germany. Normally this differential is €80–100 /t.
