Sheppard's letter raises concerns around the lack of clarity over retaining samples from coronial postmortem examinations.I know of similar problems that create risks to public health. When tuberculosis is suspected as an incidental postmortem finding, it cannot be proved because there is no provision in these circumstances forthe pathologistto send human tissue to rule out causes of public health concern.
