According to an official with Cuban national energy company Cupet, the 65K-b/d Cienfuegos refinery is currently processing only about 20-25K b/d as crude supplies from Venezuela have been sharply curtailed. The refinery— which is owned and operated not by Cupet but by Cuban-Venezuelan joint venture Cuvenpetrol—may need to be "furloughed if new sources of adequate crude are not found as this level of processing is uneconomic, and there is uncertainty about the continuation of supply from Venezuela."
