US propylene market looks bleak in 2017.

The incoming year would pose challenges to propylene producers because of supply and demand imbalance. First on the supply side, two new propane dehydrogenation units—Enterprise Products' s 750K mt/y, Mont Belvieu, TX unit in 2Q2017 and Dow Chemical's 750K mt/y, Freeport, TX unit commissioned in Dec. 2015—, restart of two steam crackers after maintenance at the end of Dec, and start-up of four steam crackers this year should supply excessive amount of propylene to the market.
