Exxon, SABIC still exploring potential USGC j.v.

The two firms are continuing to engage in discussion about the possible establishment of a j.v. cracker complex on the US Gulf Coast. Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) CEO Yousef al-Benyan told Reuters on Jan. 19 that he has scheduled a trip to the US for the end of this month to engage ExxonMobil in further talks over the proposed complex, which would produce ethylene to supply to other USGC plants that produce ethylene derivatives. "The outlook is still very positive...We will be working with ExxonMobil to come up with a very strong competitive structure of this project. We are very excited about current developments with ExxonMobil, not only the cracker but also in the downstream type of projects we are going to do."
