According to Commissioner Hector Moreira, of Mexico's hydrocarbon commission (Comision Nacional de Hirocarburos, or CNH), oil and gas field licenses in the country have been awarded to a total of 49 companies so far, from 14 different countries. Mexico offered a total of 55 areas for exploration—with more to come—and 39 have been awarded so far. The second round of licensing is to start with 15 shallow-water blocks to be auctioned on June 19, after officials delayed a March 22 auction in hopes of attracting more interest. How much production could come out of the two rounds is uncertain; Commissioner Moreira said that 400K b/d was a possibility, but called the figure a "wild guess."
