On July 3, the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled that the US Environmental Protection Agency cannot arbitrarily freeze the implementation if Obama-era regulation of methane emissions. The rules, if implemented, will require oil and gas companies to find, report and repair methane leaks at various installations, including wells and transfer stations. They were put on hold by the Trump administration, but environmentalists argued—and the court agreed—that the freeze was not in compliance with procedures laid out by the 1970 Clean Air Act.
