We thank Dr. Brenner for the comment on our historical neurology paper.1 In fact, most university teachers with a Nazi past had no difficulties in continuing or even expanding their careers in postwar Germany. This is also shown by Helmut Bauer’s example. However, the situation is quite different for the displaced and disenfranchised. Many did not succeed in (seamlessly) continuing their careers in emigration or after their return in the postwar period. They often were not welcome in their old home. Viktor Frankl’s life is certainly an exception—albeit a very remarkable one.
