摘要

At least one-third of newborns with symptomatic neonatal arterial ischemic stroke (SNAIS) develop cerebral palsy or impaired development. The clinical factors associated with poor outcomes after SNAIS are poorly characterized. Given the associated large lifelong burden, outcome prediction in the setting of SNAIS is important when considering whom to target with early intervention. Previous research identified predictive variables such as infarct topography and infarct volume, but these are time-consuming to calculate for a practicing physician. There is a need for simple, reliable, quantitative scoring systems to predict outcomes after SNAIS so that resources can be allocated effectively. Current literature suggests that early intervention after SNAIS might steer corticospinal tract development toward a normal pattern, providing a unique opportunity to influence outcome.
