China: Mahle to increase exports to Japan

ACCORDING to a report by Automotive News, Mahle is expected to increase engine-component exports from China to its plants in Japan to take advantage of lower manufacturing costs. "We are going to start producing some products in China and India that we do not produce in Japan and export to there," said Michael Brenner, senior executive officer for commercial vehicle sales of Mahle Japan, while speaking to Automotive News at the recent Auto China 2006 show. According to Brenner, straight shell bearings and piston rings are potential export items and when Chinese exports begin, Mahle will downsize its Japanese plants.
