US: ECD Ovonics wins contract to convert engines to run on hydrogen

ENERGY Conversion Devices (ECD Ovonics) has won a cost-shared contract from the US Department of Energy (DoE) to continue its work on converting sub-25hp (19kW) gasoline internal combustion engines (ICE) to run on hydrogen. According to the company, the estimated total cost of the project is US$1.7m, of which the DoE will provide US$1.2m. Under the contract, ECD Ovonics will develop an affordable method for the engine conversion, while maintaining the performance of the unmodified engine.
