The United States’ Midwest aluminium premium retreated further on Tuesday September 22, shedding gains recorded last month after US tariffs were re-imposed on Canadian aluminium, while the market digests the recent replacement of the tariffs with a hard quota. Fastmarkets assessed the aluminium P1020A premium, ddp Midwest US at 13.5-15 cents per lb on September 22, down by 3.4% from 14-15.5 cents per lb previously and by 13.6% from the nearly nine-month high of 16-17 cents per lb reached in early August after the tariffs were re-introduced.
