Germany: Siemens VDO to offer new speech recognition technology

SIEMENS VDO has revealed that it is developing a new voice recognition technology for vehicles. The company plans to provide an integrated Human Machine Interface (HMI) concept that operates complex functions through a combination of voice commands, haptic and visual elements and handwriting recognition. At the moment, the company's system addresses 70,000 German city and street names. By 2012, this is expected to increase to 300,000 words. There is also an option of twelve languages, including Chinese and Japanese.
