US: Cat demonstrates its EPA 07 'production' C13 engine

CATERPILLAR has shown its C13 heavy-duty truck diesel meeting EPA 2007 emission standards in the form it will go into production later this year. A demonstration of the newly compliant engine was held for the benefit of EPA officials at a site near Washington DC. It differs from all rival '07 compliant' engines in its novel use of 'long route' non-cooled EGR, whereby the exhaust gas is introduced into the induction side of the engine at a point where there is no adverse pressure gradient, viz: upstream of the turbo-compressor and intercooler.
