India: Cummins to increase local sourcing

CUMMINS plans to source around Rs22.95bn (US$500m) worth of engines and automotive components from India by 2010, reported the Hindu. "The company presently buys components worth Rs6.88bn (US$150m) from India," said Ravi Krishnappa, director of global sourcing at Cummins USA, speaking at the Global Auto Components Sourcing Fair in Chennai. At the moment, Cummins sources engines and components from more than 30 Indian companies. The company plans to source complex fuel systems, advanced electronics and censors from an even wider range of local suppliers in future.
