US: Aluminium use on the rise, says report

ACCORDING to a report by The Aluminium Association, aluminium has surpassed iron as the second most used automotive material worldwide, with steel in first place. The study was commissioned by the Auto & Light Truck Group (ALTG) of The Aluminium Association and was conducted by Ducker Worldwide. In North America, the aluminium content in passenger cars and trucks averages 319lbs, which represents a 16% increase from 2002. Automotive manufacturers have increased their use of aluminium to improve fuel economy, safety and driving performance and to reduce engine emissions.
