Germany: BASF reports record earnings in 2005

LEADING chemical supplier BASF has posted record sales and earnings for 2005. Sales for the full year increased 14% to {EUR}42.75bn (US$50.92bn) from {EUR}37.54bn (US$44.71bn) during the previous year. This rise in sales has been attributed to strong sales volume achieved in Oil & Gas and Chemicals, an increase in prices and foreign currency translation effects. Acquisitions contributed {EUR}325m (US$387.1m), while divestitures reduced sales by {EUR}636m (US$757.55).
