Germany: Webasto sales grow while earnings fall

WEBASTO, the world's largest supplier of roof and temperature management systems to the automotive industry, registered worldwide sales of {EUR}1.5bn (US$1.79bn) in 2005, up 5% year-on-year. Operating earnings, though, dropped by almost 50% compared to 2004. "The order book situation is satisfactory, but the fact is that the situation in terms of earnings remains tense in spite of considerable cost-cutting measures, also in the area of personnel costs. Against this background we shall be taking all necessary measures towards enhancing our long-term profitability," said Franz-Josef Kortum, chairman of Webasto's management board.
