UK: Clean Air Power dual-fuel conversions diversify from Cat engines

NEARLY all conversions on truck engines in Europe allowing them to run on a dual-fuel (natural gas/diesel) mix have till now been undertaken using hardware from San Diego, California, based Clean Air Power. Caterpillar C12 diesels in UK-built Foden chassis have effectively accounted for all such conversions. But with the imminent demise of the Foden marque and with it Cat's only European chassis building OEM customer, CAP is looking to diversify its applications to include other makes of engine. A 9.2-litre DAF engine in a CF model truck operated by a British bakery company is being converted to dual fuelling. So too is a 12-litre Mercedes-Benz OM457LA unit in a UK haulage company's Axor chassis.
