Continental has reported a 28.8% rise in net profit to {EUR}952.2m for 2005, boosted by higher earnings in all divisions, particularly the two tyre units. Group revenue rose by 9.8% to {EUR}13.84bn. The largest contributor was the Automotive Systems division, which claims to be the world number one for foundation brakes and number two for electronic brake systems and brake boosters. The division reported a 4.5% rise to {EUR}5.23bn, mainly due to higher volumes for electronic stability control (ESC), brake boosters, brake callipers, and electronic controls for entry and driver authorisation systems. In particular, the number of vehicles equipped with ESC in the US increased. The fastest growth rates were recorded in the Electronic Brake and Safety Systems business unit and Powertrain, Electric Drives, Body Electronics and Aftermarket.
