Japan: SRI to boost tyre production at Miyazaki

SUMITOMO Rubber Industries, the manufacturer of Dunlop brand tyres, is to invest some ￥3bn (US$25.2m) in the fiscal year beginning 1 April 2006 to upgrade its Miyazaki tyre plant, a move that will boost the facility's production capacity by around 7% to 48,000upd. The company will install new moulding and vulcanising equipment that will shorten the time needed to make a single tyre by around 10%, enabling the plant to turn out 3,000 more tyres each day. Over the next three years, the company plans to shorten production times by an additional 30%.
