Brazil: Continental to inaugurate first tyre plant in April

CONTINENTAL will next month inaugurate its first ever tyre plant in Brazil. The US$260m factory, which is located near a Ford assembly plant in the Camacari Industrial Zone in Bahia state, will produce passenger car and truck tyres. The factory produced its first prototypes at the end of December 2005. Continental has set an output target of 9,000 passenger car tyres per day in 2006, rising to 14,000 tyres per day by the first half of 2007. Production of truck tyres will commence in July 2006.
