TRW is in the process of developing two regenerative braking technologies that integrate the enhanced safety of electronic stability control systems for hybrid vehicles, small passenger cars and SUVs. The company claims that the slip control boost (SCB) and active hydraulic boost (AHB) systems will offer full braking functionality for hybrid electric vehicles, while incorporating electronic stability control and brake actuation within a 12-volt system. The SCB's design replaces traditional boosters, master cylinders and vacuum pumps with an electro-hydraulic control unit (EHCU), while the brake pedal simulator unit will be replaced by a twin master cylinder to supply brake pressure.
