UK: Axeon acquires Advanced Batteries

SEMICONDUCTOR company Axeon Holdings has acquired Advanced Batteries Limited (ABL) for ￡1.5m (US$2.61m), reports The Daily Telegraph. The two Scottish companies will develop a reliable electrical energy source for vehicles in a bid to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Although making electric-powered cars and buses is possible, a battery capable of doing so has not yet received approval. Axeon will combine its knowledge of fuel efficiency with ABL's expertise of power for automotive electric vehicles to develop such a battery system for high-capacity lithium-ion battery packs for use in buses, delivery vehicles and cars. The two companies have already developed a prototype.
