Luxembourg: Arcelor outbids ThyssenKrupp for Dofasco

ARCELOR has announced that it has won the battle for Dofasco, the Canadian supplier of flat rolled and tubular steels and laser welded blanks, after ThyssenKrupp pulled out of the bidding. In the end, ThyssenKrupp decided that it would not match Arcelor's CA$71 (US$61.74) per share offer. The deal was worth a total of CA$5.6bn (US$4.86bn) in cash. The acquisition is likely to benefit Arcelor by giving it a crucial foothold in the US market, balancing out the group's reliance on Europe. "We now look forward to a swift finalisation of this transaction," Arcelor spokesperson Patrick Seyler said. "We expect this to happen in the course of the next few weeks."
