China: Tenneco to invest US$30m in expansion

LEADING supplier of ride control and exhaust systems Tenneco is planning to make an additional investment of about US$30m and add to the six plants it now operates in China over the next three years, Automotive News reported. Tenneco has invested about US$21m in its China operations. The existing plants manufacture ride control and emissions control components such as shock absorbers, suspension modules, mufflers and catalytic converters. Tenneco also will introduce other product lines to China this year, bringing its total product offering in the country to more than 200 components. Emission control products are in great demand in China due to new vehicle emission standards. "That has been a nice driver of growth in other markets; it will be a nice driver here," Timothy Jackson, senior vice president of global technology and general manager of Asia Pacific, was quoted as saying.
