Murray Energy has adjusted its 2009 production projection for 2009, saying its plans to mine 27 million tons of coal this year, down about 1.5 million tons from what it was projecting for the year in late 2008. Almost of all of the reduction will come UtahAmerican Energy's West Ridge mine, which was shutdown for three months by MSHA. Company president Bob Murray referred to the shutdown as "interference" which failed to improve mine safety but did cause "job and financial destruction and market losses."
