RSDC - Setting new benchmarks for skilling in Rubber Sector

Skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development. Nations with high skill capital tend to rank higher both in terms of GDP and per capita income. For India to become a global economic powerhouse, it is imperative that its workforce is equipped with employable skills and knowledge. India is one of the youngest nations in the world. More than 50% of the total population of India is below 25 years of age. According to a research, in the next 20 years, the labour force in the industrialised world is expected to decline by 4% while the same is expected to increase by 32% in India. But if current statistics are anything to go by, a minute percentage of workforce is formally skilled in India leaving a vast pool untrained. As much as 92% of the labour force in India are in the unorganised sector and untouched by any kind of formal training. It has been proved that countries with higher and better levels of skilled workforce can effectively handle the challenges and opportunities of the global economy. And therein lies the challenge and opportunity for India too.
