Vehicle Suspension Designs

When we talk about suspension system, it would be mostly associated with any one of today's make automotive vehicle to absorb vibrations, road disturbances or dynamic shocks. In one word they are well-known as shock absorbers. Perhaps the best discovery in human civilization was the discovery of wheel. We all have witnessed 'Bullock cart wheel' (Fig.1) and the first thing that comes to our mind from the old Indian bullockcarts wheel is, itis made of attaching different curved woodenpieces,fitted with wooden spokesto reinforce the wheel and is also attached with metal band, fitted around over the periphery of the wheel. Practically the above metal band was acting as tyre,in order to prevent wear and tear.Earlier Bullock cart wheel did neither have any ball bearing system for free wheel movement nor it had any metal spring associated on the wheel axel for cushion ride.
