An experiment was conducted at the University Farm, Mohanpur, West Bengal, India during 1989-92 in order to assess the optimum system of integrated nutrient management where fertilizer with and without organic manure at three different doses was applied in rice-groundnut cropping sequence for sustainable crop production. The result revealed that incorporation of organic manure increased the grain and pod yield of rice and groundnut respectively in conjunction with fertilizer at 75 per cent of the recommended dose. Highest grain yield of rice was obtained at 100 per cent of the recommended dose when fertilizer was applied with organic manure but in groundnut highest pod yield was associated with 125 per cent of the recommended dose of fertilizer without manure application, although there was no significant difference in pod yield between 100 and 125 per cent dose of fertilizer. The beneficial effect of manuring on soil fertility build up in respect of total N and available P was more pronounced at75 per cent as compared to 100 and 125 per cent level of fertilizer but that was reverse in case of available K.
