ICG bullish about the met coal market, not so bullish about the steam coal market

International Coal Group had net income of 24.9 million dollars during the third quarter, a 6.2 million dollars improvement over the third quarter of 2009 the company announced Tuesday. In both cases the company earned 12 cents a share. The better news for ICG was its margin on the average ton of coal it sold during Q3 of this year rose to 15.30 dollars compared to 9.36 dollars last year. The 63 percent increase was because of higher met coal prices and increased met coal shipments. The company had 293.6 million dollars in revenue from coal sales during the quarter.
