100 years of alufoil and still moving forward

The European aluminium foil industry is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its unique packaging material with its unrivalled barrier property against light, moisture and aroma. Conceived as a replacement for tin foil the success story of alufoil started in 1910, when Robert Victor Neher took out a patent for the continuous rolling process and opened the first aluminium rolling plant in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. By 1911 Bern-based Tobler began wrapping its chocolate bars in alufoil, including the unique triangular brand 'Toblerone'.
