Some regard it as human hubris, others see it as the pinnacle of the art of constructional engineering: the beginning of January 2010 saw the official opening of the world's tallest building, which is 189 storeys and 828 metres high. Located in Dubai and originally named the Burj Dubai (Dubai Tower), it was renamed Burj Khalifa in honour of the ruler of the neighbouring Emirate of Abu Dhabi who had recently helped rescue the cash-strapped emirate.
