Organostannoxanes Containing Peripheral Thiomethyl Groups

Abstract The reaction of 4-thiomethylbenzoic acid with [ n -BuSn(O)OH] n in a 6:6 stoichiometric ratio results in the formation of a hexameric organostannoxane drum. ( 1) On treatment of 1 with HAuCl 4 a ring opening reaction occurs to afford a hexatin ladder. ( 2) The synthesis and structural characterization of these compounds are discussed.
