Notley's Futile Pursuit of a Green Nirvana

It's taken a year but Albertans are finally coming to terms with some of the consequences of electing the NDP. Chief among them is the carbon tax, the initial levy of which begins next January. During the election campaign the NDP said nothing about such a measure. Nor, of course, would they ever bring in a sales tax. Critics have argued that a carbon tax serves the same purpose as a sales tax. In the sense that both aim to raise revenue, this is true enough. But matters are in fact more complex.
