Untrained student's wetland drowning would have been avoided by life jacket

A Cambridgeshire farming partnership has been ordered to pay a fine and costs exceeding ￡90,000 for failures that ended in a teenager drowning in a lake in Cambridgeshire. The teenager's brother also died while trying to rescue his sibling. The incident occurred on land at Kingfishers Bridge Wetland Creation Trust in Wicken, near Soham, where Luke Yardy, a 17-year-old student, had been engaged to undertake pest and predator control work by AC, PC & RC Green, a family farming partnership managing the wetland on behalf of the trust. Although the trust and the partnership are different legal entities, the land is owned by the Green family, who lease the land to the trust.
