Fall leaves builder facing prison possibility

A builder has received a suspended prison sentence after his failures resulted in a self-employed bricklayer breaking his back in two places in a three-metre fall from faulty scaffolding. The incident occurred at a warehouse owned by Cartwright Bros (Haulage) on the Freeman Industrial Estate in Lincoln. The transport company had hired the builder, Rodney Foyster, to fix a wall of the warehouse that had been damaged by a reversing lorry. Foyster bought and erected some second-hand scaffolding, positioning scaffolding towers inside and outside of the warehouse near to a large shutter door used by articulated vehicles. He removed wooden boards from the inside tower and used them to make a makeshift five-foot bridge linking the two towers.
